Don’t cut back on Marketing

Many companies cut back on their marketing budget as soon as the economy starts slowing down, this could have a negative effect on future business.  The best approach will be to identify ineffective marketing.  Search for marketing opportunities that will suit your business.  One of the tried-and-tested methods of cost effective marketing for your business is to use the world-wide established network of the Chamber of Commerce.

Some tips and reasons to keep advertising in these hard times:

Marketing your company in the economic slowdown can give you the advantage, because your competitors are cutting back their marketing.  Or you can make the mistake of not advertising, but your competition keeps on advertising.  Image how this will affect your business.

Can your business risk not being visible.  Cutting back on marketing risks the loss of new and potential clients, these clients will be unaware of your products and services.  Your existing clients won’t know of any of your new services or products.  Remember as soon as the public don’t see your business anymore they forget about you.

When times are tough, people look for deals.  If you continue your advertising in these though times, you will reach the people who are looking for a good deal.

Your reputation can suffer.  People can view businesses that cut advertising as having trouble.  If you’re not advertising, you must be struggling, right?  If the viability of your business comes into question in the minds of your customers, they’re less likely to come back.  You may be better off continuing to advertise, keeping your brand visible in the marketplace and strong in the minds of your customers.

On the 15th of March 2016, the Deputy Minister of Tourism Ms Tokozile Xasa, in partnership with the UNISA Graduate School of Business Leadership, Launched the Executive Development Programme (EDP) for Black women managers in the tourism sector.

She indicated that the aim is to address the skewed socio-economic landscape of the tourism industry with the objective to capacitate black women managers within the tourism sector, because majority of employees in the tourism sector are women yet many of these women are still relegated to the kitchens, cleaning departments and front desks of many of our tourism establishments. Therefore this programme is targeted at these employees who hold junior positions or middle management levels in the Tourism Sector. Upon a successful completion of this programme graduates will receive a National Qualification (NQF) level 8 qualification. .

This great initiative by the department of Tourism will surely move employees in the tourism industry to greater heights.

Tourism is definitely growing in South Africa…..
